CAPRI is a self-insurance program that combines the resources of member districts to gain the operational base necessary to provide insurance on a volume basis while allowing flexibility in meeting the unique coverage requirements of the participants.
CAPRI was formed as a risk-sharing joint powers authority during the 1980s to counteract the insurance restructuring process. Backed by CARPD, CAPRI has prospered for many years and now insures a large majority of our member districts.
The success of CAPRI is exemplified by the cooperation of all districts as they share the loss exposure. CAPRI provides regional training classes and risk management. The result is consistently low premiums.
Liability and property insurance coverage is available to recreation and park special districts formed under the Resource Codes of California. Both dependent and independent districts are eligible for coverage.
Workers compensation coverage was added to is CAPRI in 2008 and is also available to CARPD member recreation and park special districts formed under the Resource Codes of California. Both dependent and independent districts are eligible for coverage.
Membership in CARPD is necessary when applying for CAPRI coverage.
