The California Association of Recreation of Parks Districts (CARPD) Awards Program annually acknowledges the excellence of districts, individuals, organizations, innovative recreation programs and parks facility improvements.

2009 Award Winners

2009 Award Categories

Nominations for District awards will be accepted for both Large (annual revenues of $2 million or more) and Small Districts (annual revenues less than $2 million).

The deadline for entries will be March 14, 2009, and the awards will be presented at the awards banquet on April 25, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Spa, North Lake Tahoe.

Outstanding District – Any District that has innovative programming, events, or designed facilities that go “above and beyond” the usual recreation and park scope.

Environmental Education and Interpretation – Sponsors education and interpretative programs for staff and public that enhance appreciation for natural resources and supports an environmentally responsive lifestyle.

Best Marketing and Communications – Includes district generated brochures, guides, and web site pages.

Best Newspaper Coverage of your District – Press coverage from a regular circulated (daily, weekly) public newspaper such as photos, news articles or editorial.

Best Innovative Programming – Recognize new and or different directions in district recreation programming or park maintenance operation.

Best New Facility – New construction that has innovated or attractive design, address district uses, or provides cost efficiency.

Best Renovated Facility – Best renovation of an existing facility.

Individual Awards:  Nominations for a person or group who has contributed to the overall benefit of recreation and park districts and or programs.

 

Long Term Meritorious Service – Honors a District Board Member who has served at least 15 years. Nomination shall be made by resolution from their District Board.

Honorary Life Membership – Individual recognition for distinguished service to the recreation and park movement and to the California Association of Recreation and Park Districts.

Outstanding Senior – Any senior who has shown outstanding participation, volunteer service, or other contribution in a Recreation and Park District

Outstanding Youth – Recognition for a young person who has provided outstanding participation, volunteer service, or other significant contribution in a District leisure / recreation program.

Outstanding Group – Honors an outstanding youth, adult, special population, or senior group that has made a significant contribution to a District recreation or park program.

Outstanding Organization – Private, public or special interest group which have made a significant contribution to the community or recreation movement. (Excluding Recreation and Park Districts)

Outstanding Volunteer – Any person who has volunteered their time and effort above and beyond any normal expectation to help towards the betterment of a Recreation and Park District.

Outstanding Board Member – Any person whose significant contribution to the community was made while serving as a Board Member. (Current or past).

Outstanding Professional – Any person whose significant contribution was made while serving as a paid member of an agency, consulting firm or similar vocational role.

Special Honor Award – Honors and outstanding individual who has contributed to the general welfare and benefit of a Recreation and Park District.

2009 Guidelines for CARPD Awards Nominations:

  1. The Nominee should have a distinguished record of faithful and honorable service to the Recreation and Park field. Demonstrates a contribution that has advanced the Recreation and Park concept through foresight, planning and development to the benefit of the community, state or nation.
  2. If the Nominee is a Board Member, he/she shall have served on a Board for not less than three (3) years or one (1) term.
  3. Any organization or individual may submit a nomination for consideration by the Awards Committee.
  4. Judging of Nominations and selection for awards will be based solely on the basis of information submitted. Deadline - EXTENDED! New deadline: March 14, 2009.
  5. No recipient expenses will be paid for by CARPD, including the awards banquet. Nominating agency to bear expenses.
